Human Resource Management: HRM Practices and Strategies

Human Resource Management: HRM Practices and Strategies

Assignment Question
"It (HRM) could be indeed no more and no less than another name for personnel management, but, as usually perceived, at least it has the virtue of emphasizing the need to treat people as a key resource, the management of which is the direct concern of top management as part of the strategic planning processes of the enterprise.
Although there is nothing new in the idea, insufficient attention has been paid to it in many organizations. The new bottle or label can help to overcome this deficiency."

Armstrong (1987:32)
Quoted in: legge, k. (1995) Human Resource Management – Rhetorics and Realities. London: Palgrave (p69)
Analyze and critically discuss this view on the role of Human Resource Management and its activities and influence within an organizations.
Wherever possible, illustrate and support your answer with examples form your own reading and/or any organizations with which you are familiar, especially your own.
