magazine, book, website. You MUST USE the
citation techniques on pages 128-130 in your book for ALL outside sources.

Choose ONE. You may use any of
these as they are or adapt and change them according to your own interests and
research.
- Examine the way in which
gender roles appear in the study of music and in the world of
musicians. To what degree is the
way music is studied and performed affected by gender?
- Examine the ways in which genders are alike. The focus on gender studies tends to
assume there are great differences in men, women and transgendered people,
but in what ways is our common humanity more important than our gender?
- Discuss aspects of gender roles you have noticed since coming
to the United States or in another country you have visited and know
well. What similarities and/or differences
have you noticed in gender roles in other cultures and your own culture?
- Discuss how males are restricted by conventional gender roles. You can do this in a general way or focus
on the way in which you have been influenced, positively and/or negatively,
by traditional roles.
- Discuss attitudes to transgender and transsexual individuals in
your country. What obstacles and/or
support do they receive from non-transgendered people, the government, and
society in general?
